The Hon. Joan H. Lefkow of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois delivers the 2007 Tucker Lecture at the Washington and Lee University School of Law. The speech occurred on Friday, October 5 beginning at 12:10 p.m. in the Millhiser Moot Court Room and titled, "A District Judge's Thoughts about the Independent Judiciary Debate."

Judge Lefkow was appointed to the U.S. District Court in 2000 by President Bill Clinton. From 1982 until her appointment to the district court, she held two other positions in the federal judiciary. She served as a magistrate judge from 1982 until 1997 and then as a bankruptcy judge until 2000.
