Dean Roy L. Steinheimer Jr.: Creator of a Modern W&L School of Law
The Washington and Lee University School of Law class of 1981 Generously funded the establishment of the Steinheimer Foyer at the new main entrance to Sydney Lewis Hall, which was part of the 2014-2016 building renovations. To complement the portrait of Dean Steinheimer, commissioned by the law class of 1985, which hangs in an alcove of this area, Dean Brant Helwig asked the Lewis F. Powell Jr. Archives staff to design an exhibit. Fabricated by Gropen, Inc. of Charlottesville, Virginia, the exhibit uses materials from the archives both to remind alumni of Steinheimer’s accomplishments and to tell the story of his deanship to younger alumni, students, staff and faculty, as well as visitors to the school.
This complementary electronic presentation includes both photos from the physical exhibit and some not included due to limitations of space. Here, too, is as complete a bibliography of Steinheimer's legal writing as could be established.
